AUTOTRADER/SUZUKI/JGRMX SPRING CREEK RACE REPORT

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (July 24, 2017) – After a short hiatus in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series, racing resumed on Saturday at the Spring Creek National. Heat and humidity challenged the world’s fastest racers. The Autotrader/Suzuki/JGRMX team persevered, despite conditions that team manager Jeremy Albrecht stated were the most difficult since the infamous mud race of 2006.
Justin Barcia was primed and ready for the grueling conditions. After a top three start in the first moto, Justin held strong for most of the moto. Unfortunately, the heat index sapped his late-moto charge. Barcia crossed the line in fifth. “Bam Bam” was looking for redemption in the final moto, charging up to fourth place in the early stages. The unforgiving Spring Creek circuit put Barcia on the ground midway through the moto. Justin fought valiantly in climbing up to eighth by moto’s end. His 5-8 moto scores netted him sixth overall.
In the first moto Weston Peick meticulously worked his way up to 12th. The second moto was looking favorable for Peick, but a rider crashed in front of Weston in the second turn. The #32 dug deep, coming all of the way from 31st to 11th by the time the moto expired. Peick ended the day in 11th overall.
Kyle Cunningham logged a 15th place in the first 250 moto. Unfortunately, the Texan pulled off in the final moto, as a sore thumb sustained in a crash during the week was too much to overcome. We’ll have an update on Kyle’s condition later this week.
The series heads to Washougal, Washington this weekend. The first motos will air live on MAVTV at 4:00 p.m. (EST). NBC Sports Network will air the second motos live at 6:00 p.m. (EST).
