AUTOTRADER/SUZUKI/JGRMX WASHOUGAL RACE REPORT

July 31, 2017

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (July 31, 2017) – The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series made its annual pilgrimage to the picturesque Washougal facility in southern Washington on Saturday. While the conditions were outstanding, the Autotrader/Suzuki/JGRMX team fought through a series of unfortunate events.

Justin Barcia was posting extremely fast qualifying times and looked ready for an afternoon of great finishes. Unfortunately, Barcia crashed hard after putting in a hot lap. He was slammed into the ground—hard enough that the AMA red-flagged the practice session. Justin was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. It was determined that “Bam Bam” sustained a concussion, but did not receive additional injury. As a result, Barcia was sidelined for the day. We’ll have more information on Barcia’s condition as it becomes available.

Weston Peick logged some of the fastest segment times in both motos, but poor starts had the SoCal native fighting to make up ground. Peick dug deep and chipped away at the competition. Long shadows and deep, choppy ruts didn’t dissuade “The Viking” from making up time. When the dust settled, Weston finished with 6-8 moto scores for seventh overall.

Kyle Cunningham had a bike malfunction before the start of the first moto and was unable to race. However, he came out guns blazing in the second 250 moto and crossed the checkers in 11th. The 40-11 moto scores netted him 16th on the day.

There is a weekend break in the series before the racing picks back up at New Berlin, NY on August 12th. The first motos will air live on MAVTV at 1:00 p.m. (EST). NBC Sports Network will air the second motos at 7:30 p.m. (EST).
