AUTOTRADER/SUZUKI/JGRMX SOUTHWICK RACE REPORT

July 10, 2017

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (July 10, 2017) - Deep sand and loyal New England motocross enthusiasts greeted the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series on Saturday. Known for its challenging and ever-changing conditions, the Southwick track was unkind to the Autotrader/Suzuki/JGRMX team.

Justin Barcia continued his run of strong starts, coming out with top ten starts in both motos. Unfortunately, Lady Luck had the upper hand on this day. While running fourth in the opening moto, Barcia’s bike ran out of fuel on the last lap. He was scored 12th when all was said and done. In the second moto Justin came out in third place. However, a mechanical issue stalled his advance early in the race. By moto’s end Barcia crossed the line for 12th. Justin finished 11th overall.

Like Barcia, it was a should have, could have, would have day for Weston Peick. The SoCal native suffered a mechanical issue while running a torrid pace in fourth. A 36th place moto finish meant a difficult gate choice for the second moto, but that didn’t dissuade Weston. He blasted out of the gate and into 11th place by the end of the opening lap. Peick worked up to 8th by the time the checkers flew. His 36-8 moto scores netted him 14th overall.

Kyle Cunningham soldiered through the loose sand. His efforts earned him 18-11 moto scores for 14th overall.

There’s a one-week break in the action. Round eight will be held on July 22nd at one of the most beautiful tracks on the circuit—Spring Creek. The first motos will air live on MAVTV at 2:00 p.m. (EST), while the second motos will be shown at 11:00 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.
