AUTOTRADER/SUZUKI/JGRMX UNADILLA RACE REPORT

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (August 14, 2017) – After months of sunny racing, Mother Nature unleashed her wrath on the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series this past Saturday. The conditions became so perilous, in fact, that the racing was paused for well over two hours.
Phil Nicoletti made his return to racing after a six month hiatus due to injury. The New Yorker rode a consistent first moto in 12th. Then the skies opened up, leaving a deluge for Phil to navigate through. A first turn crash, followed by a pit stop, left Nicoletti mired in the pack. The #37 dug deep and sliced through the field to 18th place. His 12-18 moto scores left him in 16th by day’s end.
Weston Peick was charging forward in the first moto—a good sign that “The Viking” is gradually overcoming his wrist injury from Supercross. The SoCal native struggled in the treacherous second moto conditions, saying “The second moto was a blood bath. Growing up in Cali[fornia] really showed my true mud skills…not.” Peick’s 6-20 moto scores placed him 13th overall.
Kyle Cunningham was constantly moving up in the pack on Saturday. As a result, Cunningham scored his best moto overall of the season. Kyle admitted after the race that he was starting to ride more like himself. Cunningham went 13-7 for 10th overall.
The series makes its annual stop to Budds Creek Raceway in Mechanicsville, MD this weekend. The first moto will be televised live on MAVTV at 1:00 p.m. (EST). Millions of viewers will be able to catch the live second moto action on NBC at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
